The Roma Turf Club aims to conduct quality thoroughbred racing events in the Roma district which will not only provide a high standard of sport, entertainment and benefits to the local community but will improve and promote country racing to a broader audience. Roma is situated approximatley 550km west of Brisbane and is the hub of the Maranoa region. The Carnarvon ranges rise in the distance to the north and the rivers feeding into the Murray Darling Basin all begin their journeys here. The Roma Turf Club holds seven races a year, with the "Roma Cup" being the feature of the racing calendar. Bassett Park Race Track is located on the northern edge of town, approximatley 4km from the town centre. The sand race track is surrounded by beautiful grounds. All amenities are provided at the racetrack from bar and food, air-conditioned Members Bar and oncourse TAB and Eftpos. There is plenty of green space for the kids to run around or spread out a picnic rug under the shady gums trackside. THE JOURNEY Half the fun of a weekend at the races is travelling to the bush. With planes, trains and automobiles departing Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and other regions frequently - travel to Roma is easy. The road will take you over the Great Dividing Range onto the Western Downs and through the small farming communities that dot the track to Roma.
